Best & worst performing funds since March 2020

After touching a low of Rs 7,610 in the month of March, Nifty today, touched a physiological mark of 14,000. In the last nine months, the frontline equity indices have gained by 84 per cent after witnessing a fall of 39 per cent in the first quarter of 2020.    

There were many mutual fund schemes that saw a much sharper cut during the same period. Most of them were from the commodity and finance front as these were the most impacted. At one point in time, in the year 2020, crude oil was trading in the negative zone, which theatrically means that the buyers were being paid for purchasing crude oil. Even the banks were hit harder as the fears of NPA rose after the lockdown, which subsequently resulted in job loss for many.

Post-March 23, we saw a dramatic recovery in the fortune of equity investors. Equity indices saw a sharp recovery and some of the equity indices, such as small-caps, gained by more than 90 per cent.
