In the ebb and flow of the market, it’s not uncommon to hear whispers of a looming downturn whenever corrections occur. These murmurs are often accompanied by a slew of justifications, ranging from rising US yields to inflation hovering persistently above the Federal Reserve’s long-term target of 2 per cent. Furthermore, the unexpectedly robust January jobs report has tempered expectations for any Federal Reserve rate cuts in the first half of 2024, adding fuel to the fire of apprehension. Amidst all this, the spectre of foreign fund outflows sends tremors through the market.
