It was a disappointing end to the week as Nifty slipped 1.77 per cent to end at 17,800 levels. It has broken the key support level of 18,000 and the sentiment has turned strongly bearish.

In a volatile Friday’s session, the benchmark index Nifty 50 recovered about 120 points mid-day, only to lose the entire points towards the end. It closed at day’s low and below 18,300 levels while S&P BSE Sensex tanked 460 points.

A broad based rally was witnessed today as 1,225 stocks advanced as against 766 stocks that declined.

It was a fantastic final hour as Nifty shot up nearly 150 points to soar above 18,800 before receding a little. In the end, Nifty surged 0.75 per cent to close at an all-time high level at of 18,758 and BSE Sensex jumped over 400 points.

Nifty 50 index hit a fresh all-time high of 18,614.25 on an intraday basis, which was previously marked at 18,604.

The broader indices marched higher despite bad global cues. The star performances came from the midcap and Smallcap indices which jumped nearly 1 per cent.
