October Auto sales data: Hero MotoCorp achieves highest ever sales on positive customer sentiments

Maruti Suzuki India reported an 18.9 per cent YoY jump in the total sales with 1,82,448 units sold in October 2020, in comparison to over 1,53,435 units sold in October 2019. This includes 1,72,862 units in the domestic & original equipment manufacturer (OEM) market sales and 9,586 units of exports.

Meanwhile, under the mini & compact segment, the company registered a 19.2 per cent YoY jump in sales while under the passenger vehicle segment, it registered a 17.6 per cent YoY jump in sales.

Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, sold 8,06,848 units of motorcycles & scooters in October 2020, which is its highest-ever sales in any single month. Continuing its growth momentum, the company reported a robust sales growth of 35 per cent in October 2020 with total sales of 5,99,248 units. A positive turnaround in customer sentiments, particularly for motorcycles across markets, continued government policy support, and a credible resumption of the supply chain, logistics & business operations has enabled the company to achieve record numbers during the auspicious festive period.

Ashok Leyland, which offers a range of trucks and heavy vehicles, posted muted numbers for the month of October 2020. The total number of vehicles sold in October 2020 was 9,989, showing a 1 per cent YoY rise. Domestic sales declined by 2 per cent with sales of 8,885 vehicles in October 2020. The total sales of M&HCV declined by 11 per cent YoY while the sale of light commercial vehicle (LCV) grew by 14 per cent YoY.

Escorts, the leader in the agri-machinery segment, posted a 2.3 per cent YoY rise in the total sales for October 2020. Domestic tractor sales registered a marginal growth of 1.1 per cent in October 2020 with 13,180 tractors being sold against 13,034 tractors in October 2019. Export registered a significant growth of 51.7 per cent with 484 tractors being sold against 319 tractors in October last year.

Bajaj Auto posted a jump in sales by 11 per cent in October 2020, with 5,12,038 units being sold. The sale of two-wheelers jumped by 18 per cent YoY whereas, sales of commercial vehicles (CV) dropped by 35 per cent YoY.
