Sensex, Nifty remain volatile; PC Jeweller jumps 7 per cent, Laurus Labs tumbles 5 per cent

Sensex, Nifty remain volatile; PC Jeweller jumps 7 per cent, Laurus Labs tumbles 5 per cent

The stock market remained volatile today, ahead of the US presidential election results.

On Wednesday, Nifty closed at 11,908.50 levels, up by 0.80 per cent or 95 points. Sensex gained by 0.88 per cent or 355.01 points to settle at 40,616.14.

In the European markets, DAX was trading down by 0.19 per cent whereas CAC 40 was in green, up by 0.18 per cent while FTSE 100 traded flat.

Asian indices such as Shanghai index, Nikkei, and KOSPI rose by 0.19 per cent, 1.72 per cent, and 0.60 per cent, respectively whereas, Hang Seng fell by 0.21 per cent.

Tracking strong American currency ahead of the US presidential election results, the Indian rupee depreciated by around 35 paise to close at 74.76 against the US dollar.

Sensex gainers included IndusInd Bank that went up by 4.85 per cent, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries rose by 3.96 per cent, RIL gained by 3.46 per cent, Infosys surged 3.02 per cent, Kotak Mahindra Bank increased by 2.30 per cent, Tech Mahindra gained by 2.16 per cent, etc.

Sensex losers consisted of HDFC that went down by 2.02 per cent, Axis Bank plunged 1.70 per cent, Power Grid declined by 1.64 per cent, ICICI Bank fell by 1.58 per cent, NTPC declined by 0.93 per cent, Larsen & Toubro fell by 0.89 per cent, etc.

Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, the energy index was the biggest gainer, up by 2.74 per cent whereas, realty was the biggest loser, down by 1.90 per cent. In broader markets, BSE Small-Cap index rose by 0.33 per cent while BSE Mid-Cap index increased by 0.43 per cent.
