Amid the pandemic, just a few sectors were resilient and the IT sector was one of them. BSE IT index outperformed the benchmark index-Sensex along with investors’ favourite BSE Small-Cap index in a bull market rally by gaining over 24 per cent in 2021.
Happiest Minds Technologies Ltd was the top gainer in the IT sector, gaining 250 per cent from Rs 344 on December 30, 2020, to Rs 1,204 on July 5, 2021. This was followed by Brightcom Group Ltd, which accelerated 207 per cent from Rs 8.55 to Rs 26.25 during the same period.
The next three IT companies in line are Newgen Software Technologies Ltd, Subex Ltd, and eClerx Services Ltd, which posed a growth of 173 per cent, 141 per cent and 139 per cent, respectively. Tata Elexi also grew by 139 per cent in 2021.
The list of unheard companies includes Intellect Design Arena and Hinduja Global Solutions that gained 130 per cent and 121 per cent, respectively during the same period. The last IT company to gain a shade above 100 per cent was Mastek Ltd, which grew from Rs 1,141 to Rs 2,290 in 2021.
