Telcos gear up to roll out 5G
Chinese telecom gear maker Huawei expects India to become the second largest 5G market in the next 10 years. Huawei has partnered with Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel for 5G trials.
By 2025, there will be 1.4 billion 5G connections globally, which is 15 per cent of the total market, projected the international telecom operator's body, GSM Association. It is expected that almost half the connections in the US and 30 per cent in China and 5 per cent in India will be 5G by 2025. Huawei has joined hands with Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel for 5G trials.
Optical fibre companies like Sterlite Technologies, Aksh Optifibre among others are understood to be key players to tap this opportunity. In terms of peak speed, 5G is almost 15 times faster than 4G and can offer a maximum speed of 20Gb/s as against 1Gb/s for 4G.
The importance of 5G is further underlined with the world gradually moving towards virtual reality gaming, autonomous cars, e-commerce, digital streaming and other such high-speed data-driven technologies.
Reliance Jio has also stated that it has a 5G-ready LTE network and that the company is capable of launching new technology-based services within 5 to 6 months of spectrum allocation.
On Monday, Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone-Idea were trading at Rs.1239.25, Rs. 314.20 and Rs. 30.55 respectively on the BSE
