Markets end volatile week on a positive note before exit poll outcome

Indian benchmarks today ended on a positive note before the outcome of exit polls of Lok Sabha elections. The final poll verdict will be out on May 23, 2019. On a weekly basis, the benchmarks clocked the best week in nearly two months.

The markets entered the week with consecutive losses in nine trading sessions. The indices, though, saw high volatility, but were able to end week with gains. The Sensex and Nifty ended the week higher by 1.2 per cent and 1.1 per cent, respectively. The benchmark indices Nifty and Sensex ended the week at 11407 and 37930, respectively. The indices extended their gains for the second consecutive trading session. Today, the 31-share Sensex and the 50-stock Nifty closed higher by 1.44 per cent and 1.33 per cent, respectively.

In the coming week, the outcome of the general elections on May 23 will be a key trigger for the markets. Prior to that, on Monday, markets will take cues from the exit polls which will be announced on Sunday evening. The key event of poll results will be coupled with fourth quarter results of large companies. The key results to watch out will be SREI Infra Finance, Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Electricals, etc.
