Franklin India Fund

Franklin India Fund

I was holding units in Franklin India Ultra Short-Term Bond Fund, which I sold after they wrote off Vodafone Idea paper and before the creation of a segregated portfolio. Am I entitled for segregated portfolio units as this was written off from my holdings? And since this can neither be bought nor sold, should I not get the proceeds? What does the rule say?

- S Satheesh

Editor Responds : The rule is simple: if you hold the units of a segregated portfolio, you will get the proceeds. Since you have sold all your units before it was segregated or side-pocketed, you may not be entitled to any gain out of the proceeds that the segregated fund is receiving. I understand you have gone through the pain of losing when things were not working but could not benefit when the situation has started to improve. You have done what was right at that time as vision is always 20/20 in hindsight.
