Market Wrap: Benchmark indices close lower while Nifty Smallcap outperforms!

On Tuesday, Benchmark indices concluded the trading day on a negative note as Sensex substantially declined by 0.62 per cent and closed at 72,943.68 level, while Nifty also plunged by 0.56 per cent and closed at 22,147.90 level.

Whereas the Broader market experienced mixed performance as Nifty Midcap closed marginally lower by 0.09 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap gained by 0.75 per cent.

Market volatility, as indicated by India VIX, has surged by 1.2 per cent, reflecting an increase in market volatility.

Nifty Media, Nifty FMCG, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Energy are among the top gainers while Nifty IT, Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Bank and Nifty Metal among the top losing sectors.

Eicher Motors, Divi’s Laboratories and Titan were among the top gainers while Infosys, Indusind Bank and LTIMindtree were among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1266 stocks were advancing as against to 833 stocks that were declining, thus indicating a positive sentiment in the broader market.

Market Update at 2:10 PM: In the current trading session benchmark indices trade on a negative note with the Sensex trading substantially lower by 0.71 per cent, while Nifty also plummeted by 0.59 per cent. Similarly, in the broader indices Nifty Midcap has moderately gained by 0.22 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap has surged by 0.96 per cent.

India VIX is currently trading marginally higher by 0.56 per cent, indicating a slight increase in market volatility.

Nifty Media, Nifty Pharma and Nifty FMCG are among the top gainers while Nifty IT, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Realty are among the top losers.

Eicher Motors, ONGC and Divi’s Laboratories are among the top gainers while Infosys, LTIMindtree and Indusind Bank are among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1360 stocks are advancing as against 734 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a positive sentiment in the broader market.

 

Market Update at 12:45 PM: In the current trading session benchmark indices trade lower as Sensex has substantially declined by 0.72 per cent, while Nifty also plunged by 0.63 per cent. Similarly, in the broader markets Nifty Midcap has marginally declined by 0.12 per cent, whereas Nifty Smallcap has gained by 0.58 per cent.

India VIX is currently trading higher by 2.49 per cent, indicating an increase in market volatility.

European markets are heading for a lower open on Tuesday as Investors are closely following developments in the Middle East. European futures DAX, CAC and FTSE trade lower by 1.10 per cent, 0.66 per cent and 0.65 per cent respectively.

Market Update at 11:05 AM: In the ongoing trading session, Benchmark indices are trading on a negative note with Sensex plummeting by 0.54 per cent, while Nifty also declined by 0.39 per cent. Similarly, in the broader indices Nifty Midcap experiences moderate gains of 0.36 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap has surged by 1.12 per cent.

India VIX is trading marginally lower by 0.40 per cent, indicating a slight decline in market volatility.

Nifty Media, Nifty Auto and Nifty Energy are among the top gaining sectors while Nifty IT, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Bank are among the top losers.

Top gainers in individual stocks are ONGC, Eicher Motors and BPCL, whereas LTIMindtree, Infosys and Indusind Bank are among the top losers in the Nifty 50.

The broader market sentiment is positive, with 1525 stocks advancing compared to 570 stocks declining.

 

Market Update at 9:30 AM: On Tuesday, Indian markets initiated the trading day on a negative note with Sensex opening moderately lower by 0.47 per cent, while Nifty also opened lower by 0.42 per cent. Similarly, in the broader indices Nifty Midcap opened marginally higher by 0.01 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap also opened moderately higher by 0.5 per cent.

India VIX has marginally surged by 0.94 per cent, indicating a slight increase in market volatility.

Nifty Media, Nifty FMCG and Nifty Auto are among the top gainers while Nifty IT, Nifty Bank and Nifty Financial Services are among the top losers.

Titan, Eicher Motors and M&M are among the top gainers while LTIMintree, Bajaj Finance and Shriram Finance are among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1370 stocks are advancing as against to 580 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a positive sentiment in the broader market.

 

Pre-Market Update at 8:05 AM: Monday witnessed a significant downturn in US stocks, initially buoyed by robust retail sales but later overshadowed by surging Treasury yields and apprehensions regarding escalating geopolitical tensions between Iran and Israel.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 248.13 points, or 0.65 per cent, closing at 37,735.11, while the S&P 500 declined by 61.59 points, or 1.20 per cent, reaching 5,061.82. Similarly, the Nasdaq Composite experienced a notable decrease of 290.07 points, or 1.79 per cent, concluding at 15,885.02.

The GIFT Nifty trends suggest a pessimistic beginning for Indian Benchmark indices, reflecting a decline of 168.50 points or 0.75 per cent. Nifty futures were observed trading at approximately the 22,184 level.

Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following Israel's military chief's statement regarding a response to Iran's weekend missile and drone attack, oil prices climbed on Tuesday.

Brent futures for June delivery increased by 46 cents, or 0.5 per cent, reaching USD 90.56 a barrel, while US crude futures for May delivery rose by 43 cents, or 0.5 per cent, to USD 85.84 a barrel.

Oil prices had declined in Monday's session as Iran's weekend attack on Israel was less damaging than expected, initially alleviating concerns of a rapidly intensifying conflict that could disrupt crude supplies.

On April 15, 2024, foreign institutional investors (FII) offloaded shares worth Rs 3,268 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DII) bought shares worth Rs 4,762.93 crore.

Stocks that are banned for trading in the F&O segment on April 16, 2024, are BALRAMCHIN, BANDHANBNK, EXIDEIND, GNFC, HINDCOPPER, INDIACEM, METROPOLIS, NATIONALUM, PEL, SAIL and ZEEL.
