The Rise And Rise Of Retail MF Investors Mutual fund investors who had invested at the start of the year in equity schemes might be seeing red in their portfolio. Barring a couple of sectoral funds and large-cap dedicated funds, all categories of funds have given negative returns in the last three months to six months.

The following table lists top-ranked equity funds based on DSIJ's proprietary research methodology. We have evaluated each funds underlying portfolio of stocks and ranked them based on their expected portfolio returns. This way we are also able to rank newly launched funds that are not rated by others due to their short duration of existence.

Mr. Nikhlesh Katariya, 36, is in private service and lives in Noida with his wife Mrs.Krishna Katariya, age 32, who is a housewife and has a son who is one year old. He earns a salary of Rs 2 lakh per month. After catering to his household expenses, Mr Katariya has a surplus of Rs 100,000 per month. 

This is an open-ended equity scheme that invests in securities of top 200 companies by market capitalisation. The fund will invest at least 95% of the corpus across the top 25 holdings in the portfolio excluding debt and money market securities. 

With the strong inflows in equity funds, the mutual fund industry has been buoyed by the rising assets under management. These rising inflows led to creation of many funds having huge assets under management (AUMs).
